Human Beginnings: What are we doing again?

This might turn into a rant or something... we'll see...

So I checked my views today and it was 1003! OMG

Is that good or bad? Are people actually reading? Maybe linking this to twitter actually helps?

So, human beginnings. Let me get back to the basics of why I think we are here. I triple emphasized that "I" as you can see.

What did we want to do when we evolved into the gangly creatures that we are today?

Probably we wanted to be at the top of the food chain with little effort physically or in size. Because instead of getting larger overtime, we got smarter instead. We decided to use what evolution powers were given to us to grow our brains instead of our bodies. If we went the other way, we'd be giants with itty-bitty brains. I guess it worked out okay for us, eh? :D

What else did we want to do?

Well, like all animals we wanted to ensure that our species lives on. So, we decided to find all kinds of ways to reproduce. I know it sounds downgrading to say "mating" but if we didn't have complex-wired brains to give us emotions, we WOULD be mating, NOT making love.

And besides, a good chance when we were cave people, we didn't know what love was so, yeah, we probably were mating.

Now guys, get that gross image out of your heads (sorry I put it there). These emotions that we developed made reproduction more complex because now women and men have begun to answer to this thing called "attraction" and THAT threw everything off! Animals basically choose the fittest to mate with. WE choose the good looking, pretty, strong, brainy, cute, funny, smart... OMG we got all these new criteria to deal with when choosing a partner. Yes, that's another difference between us and animals: we are PARTNERS not MATES when talking about reproduction. Also we become couples but that's not until we have quite a society.

So, back to us primitive cave people, what else did we want?

FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDD

Well, when you gotta eat, you gotta eat! Survival of the fittest!

Physically, males in primates are larger and more muscular than their female counterparts. So naturally we evolved along those lines so that men were built different from women (don't trust my evolution knowledge here, this is just my theory). Thus men went out to hunt and do all the physically challenging part of chasing meat and capturing it and slicing it up.

WHILE, at home, or at cave, women tended to children and gathered easier things like fish or berries and maybe, perhaps, not positive, they could have hunted a little like for rodents and other small animals...maybe some kind of ancient rabbit or something or a few bugs or some non-flying bird species. Basically women did the non-physically challenging part of hunting while men went out to capture some woolly mammoths.

Anyway, back to more basics. What else?

Clothes at some point, I suppose.

Especially when the Ice Age hit and everything with scales or no way to keep warm died out. I mean, sure we probably still had some fur left but we were beginning to get skinned from evolution (I think it was here. Maybe some time before when it was still warm).

Well, clothes were easy. Just protect those private parts so you don't crush them against a sharp rock and get hurt and, use skins from the animals you ate.

I'm guessing Mammoth was trending wayyyy back when.

Another thing was fire. Now I can't remember exactly when it happened but I do know it took us TWO MILLION YEARS to figure out how to make fire. Well, we still had small brains then. Blame evolution for making us look stupid.

So, to sum up, basically we needed all the necessities for Survival of the Fittest:
Bigger brains to counter our small gangly bodies
Reproduction (I think we did way better back then though most babies probably died at birth)
Gathering food (today we've learned to concur it and practically own it like it's ours which it's not)
Clothes so we could survive the Ice Age (this clever idea is thanks to our growing brains)
Energy (yup, the basic fire. No one was smart enough yet to figure out lightning was another one)

Am I missing anything? These are the basics. The basics we needed to be the Fittest.

If our emotions never got complex, we probably would be better off. Technology has practically ruined our beautiful landscapes. And greed has never been a good emotion for moving forward.

But sadly here we are today, greedy selfish stinking beings who think we are smarter than everything else.

I think we've forgotten the real reason why we are here.

I think
we are just part of a vicious cycle that has happened many times before. If we don't fix ourselves into coexisting better with the Earth, the world will come to an end, and this time it won't be a fib told by some Mayan prophecy believers.

Let's not let the Earth down before it's too late.

Note: I don't actually think the Earth will come to an end, but I do think we can destroy it even before it considers coming to an end.
