Coke vs Pepsi: 2 SIX Speculations on the Rivalry Between Coke & Pepsi

NOTE: These are only my personal opinions and speculations. I am not bashing Coke or Pepsi. If Coke or Pepsi sees this, I hope you guys find it entertaining.

Now that's cleared up...

In Coke vs Pepsi: 1
we found out the Similarities and Differences of Coke and Pepsi.

Here's what we can say from the last article.

Why Coke seems to be more popular than Pepsi:
Sad to say, when Coke and Pepsi were growing, America was in its racially divided era. Coke targeted white folk, Pepsi (such a sweetling) targeted the black folk and other minority (such as Asians like me :P ).

What happened to Pepsi:
Because Pepsi target the minority, I think they were slow to ride the road of popularity. They did, eventually, but, sad to say, if they had targeted the majority of the population, they may have gained more traction in the national market of America. Pepsi may never be able to grab the "national icon" status out of Coca-Cola's hands.

Pepsi, what happened between you and Coke?
Yeah, what is this rivalry thing? This Cola Wars thing? What's going on? Pepsi, there's a rivalry, right? Why doesn't Coke talk about it on it's Wiki page?

Some people wrote a book on it.

Speculation 1: Coke is Pepsi's idol. Pepsi loves this rivalry thing, even jokes about it. Coke believes it is the only one making the brown bubbly drink. There is no rivalry.

As all companies go, if there is another company doing something similar and becoming popular doing it, they will pose a threat to them. So, in simpler words,

Pepsi: *starts making brown bubbly drink* success is sweet!
(see what I did there? :P )

Coke: uh oh threat to us. a possible rival.

Pepsi: *sees giant "majority-aiming" Coke* Oh wow. Look how big. I bet we could do that too. But target a different type of market. Yeah!

Coke: oh they target the minority... hm, idk about them now.

Pepsi: We are getting bigger! Yeah! :D Here we come, Coke!

Coke: Nuh uh. We're the only company that makes brown bubbly drinks around here. You do not exist.

Pepsi: We will not stop! Yeah! :D

Coke: And so, we as a company... *addressing public, not seeing Pepsi*

Pepsi: Coke senpai look, we are like rivals! :D

Coke: You must be joking. No one is worthy to be MY rival.

The Public: Coke vs Pepsi, AWESOME!

Coke: There is no "vs Pepsi". There is just Coke, okay?

From what I found from looking at the two Wiki pages, Pepsi seems more relaxed and even poking fun at the rivalry they have with Coke. They seem to be happy even that they are seen as Coke's rivals. They are even willing to share their drink recipe and talk about the rivalry on their Wiki page.

Coke on the other hand is all shifty and secretive about their recipe.

Like I said in the previous Coke vs Pepsi article, Coke doesn't talk about the rivalry at all. Because they don't talk about the rivalry, it sounds like they think they are sooooo big and famous, they don't have a rivalry. It does not exist in their minds.

(Yes, even though the world knows about Coke vs Pepsi, Coke wants us to think they are soooo big that no other company can even amount to becoming their rival. It looks like they are rivals, but Coke knows, in it's brown bubbly heart, that they are the biggest company and that Pepsi can NEVER be bigger than them.)

Speculation 1 Summary: Coke dislikes even the idea of the rivalry. They don't want it to be there. They want to be the ONLY company making the brown bubbly drink. If they are the ONLY ONE, then there is NO RIVALRY. They don't wanna acknowledge something that doesn't exist.

Pepsi is more easy going and a sweetling about it all. They don't mind that other companies are making the brown bubbly drink. Coke is like their senpai (or sempai, however you guys spell it) and they enjoy this rivalry battle going on with their idol.

That was Coke as the bad company, Pepsi as the good, happy company.
But don't worry guys, Pepsi can be seen as an irresponsible company who would rather have a rival to deal with than to do other things.

Speculation 2: Coke is the only one who sees this rivalry as a serious issue. Pepsi is the one joking about it.

Okay, so BECAUSE Coke DOESN'T talk about their rivalry with Pepsi, MEANS THAT they are the ones who see it as a real rivalry and are taking it seriously.

BECAUSE Pepsi talks about it, they are not seeing the rivalry as a serious thing. It is funny to them, they think its a great story to tell at the dinner table, and joke about to their colleagues over a cup of...coffee...er, Pepsi-Cola.

If I owned a company, and I had some serious rival issues to deal with, as a strategy, I might not want to openly talk about it.

Think about it.

Both Pepsi and Coke are big companies. Coke is even bigger. It's a national icon. Saying you have a rival? That there is a company you are fighting with? Doesn't that make you look weak? Make you look like a softy?

A HUMONGOUS company does not have enemies. They are so high up that they can look down and see all the smaller minor companies fighting against each other over who will be the worthy rival of the HUMONGOUS company.

But the HUMONGOUS company does not have to worry. They are so high up, no one can EVAR come close enough to become their rival.

If some minor company happens to come out of the skirmish and starts throwing a few toothpick arrows at the giant company up top, the giant company will just casually glance over its shoulder and play with the minor company and act out the "rival" role just to make the minor company happy. If the minor company is happy, perhaps they will stop bothering the giant company.

But the giant company won't answer to the minor company so very often or frequently. And they probably won't be the one who starts the fight. Because if they do, it might make them seem like a softy company who is weak. So weak they STILL HAVE RIVALS.

Pepsi: We are rivals! We are rivals! Yeah!

Coke: *does something big to make the company bigger*

Pepsi: Oh HO! But I can do better yeah!

Coke: Pshh! *could care less* *looks at the fly that is Pepsi trying to become a bee* *only mildly amused* Need to expand my company to the world. Can't be dealing with you.

Pepsi: Woohoo! Coke is our rival! Wikipedia! We have Cola Wars, Cola Wars! OH YEAH! People! Oh the public! Look, Coka vs Pepsi! XD

Coke: Wiki, listen, this isn't really happening, okay? Do you really think we'd have a rival? We're not so weak we'd STILL have a rival. We're not softies.

Pepsi: Ooo, what are you gonna do next, senpai!

The Public: Ooo, look Coke, look what Pepsi did! Look!

Coke: Oh fine, here! *throws a rock back at them*

Pepsi: OMG! Now Coke has attacked us! *pokes Coke with a few toothpicks* Take that!

Coke: *wishes it would stop* We don't have rivals. You are not our rival! We are not weak! Darn it. Focus, Coke. Focus on yourself. Expand, expand...

Pepsi: Pokey pokey! *laughs and runs away*

Coke: Like an annoying fly! *bats fly to get rid of it*

Pepsi: Coke attacked us! Cola Wars!

Coke: Did that just make it worse? *sighs*

Speculation 2 Summary:
Pepsi is enjoying this rivalry and wants to share it with the world. Coke doesn't want to acknowledge the rivalry as it believes it is a HUMONGOUS company who is too big to have rivals and it does not want to be seen as a softy company that answers to rivals.

But Coke is worried about the fact that this "rivalry" is known. So they do not talk about it hoping that it would show how "non-serious" they are about this serious issue.

Coke is super worried that if they let their "We Are The Biggest Company" guard down, Pepsi will rise above them or this rivalry will bring Coke down somehow.

Pepsi enjoys the rivalry. Having a rival is SO MUCH FUN! :D

But Pepsi, if you have time to deal with a rival, how about you expand your company instead? A little irresponsible? Idk.

This might not be 100% true. It IS a speculation so, Coke, Pepsi, if you guys read this, tell me what your take on it is. I would LOVE to hear about it :)

Here are some other Speculations of mine.

Speculation 3: Coke and Pepsi ARE RIVALS since the moment they were born.

Related to Speculation 2, Coke may be taking this rivalry more seriously than Pepsi but nonetheless, these two companies have ALWAYS BEEN at each other's throats.

Coke sees Pepsi as a copycat (Coke was created in 1886, Pepsi in 1893). Pepsi's logo can sometimes look like Coke's.

Over the decades, they have always acknowledged each other's existence and taken it very seriously.

Pepsi, as a strategy to try to bring Coke down and show them in a negative light, talks openly about the Cola Wars. Oh, look how much Coke attacks us! Poor, poor Pepsi :0

Coke, as a strategy to look like the superior brown-bubbly-drink-making company, chooses not to talk about the rivalry openly. We are strong. Coke is strong. Too strong to have a rival. Pepsi is only a mere fly.

Speculation 4: There is no rivalry anymore. Today, they act out the rivalry to entertain the public.

idk who drew this but it's sweet.
not cuz of the sugar, guys.
oh you know what I mean.
They are like Tom and Jerry. They are actually friends.

But people like watching big companies going after each other with swords (mainly the reason why I made this Coke vs Pepsi Saga. People like to talk about it. I am a person. Therefore, I like to talk about it, too).

So, the companies act like rivals. They like to watch how the public reacts. They know their "Rivalry Story" is a BIG HIT.

When they do go into rival mode, it's a much friendly rivalry. They have great fun with it.

Notice it says "Coke & Pepsi"
not "Coke vs Pepsi"

Speculation 5: Opposite from Speculation 2, Pepsi is the one serious about the rivalry. Coke thinks it's stupid.

I don't know how to back this one up. But it was a try :/

Speculation 6: Coke is helping Pepsi by acting as a rival figure.

Coke is actually challenging Pepsi and helping it grow as a company.

Coke is acting the role of a rival FOR Pepsi.

Coke sees Pepsi as a great company that can potentially become as big as Coke and Coke would be happy to see another big company that makes brown bubbly drinks like itself.

Coke: C'mon Pepsi! You can do it! *throws an attack*

Pepsi: Grrr, that Coke! I'm gonna catch up! I'll show you! *yowls war cry*

Coke: That's the spirit!

Today, Coke and Pepsi are doing one of these 6 Speculations. There might be more but these are all the ones I could come up with.

What I wanna know is how serious Coke is about the rivalry and how serious Pepsi is about it. Or, is this merely something the public is cheering on and Coke and Pepsi are answering to like Speculation 4?

Are they buddies, frenemies, or real enemies?

What do you think?

See ya later, alligators :)
