Pondering Moments

Can there be such a world where reality is unreality or vice versa?

I have these moments when I'm walking home after a long day that I start to ponder about something out of the blue.  Most of the time it has something to do with humans.  I bet at least some of you who are reading this post have thought what kind of life the writer is having.  Or, what kind of life the stranger you see every day is having.  Or even wonder what they are thinking as they walk by you.

Anyway, I've gotten sort of off topic so let's get back on track, shall we?  So during one of these pondering moments, I pondered about fantasy worlds.  I love writing and usually my stories or what-nots would take place in a fantasy world.  I've had curious creatures, vampires, spooky children, highly futuristic worlds, and butterflies that talk and walk like humans appear in my stories.  However, I noticed one thing: fantasy worlds are highly common.  A lot of writers write about fantasy worlds.  Either that, or a non-fantasy world where only the characters are fictional.  Then I wondered, and you can later talk about this with your families or friends, if it is ever possible to create a world where reality is fantasy or fantasy is realistic.

OK, so, we already do know that there are great stories where fantasy is made realistic-ish.  But is there ever a realistic or real world that is fantasy?  When I came to this question, I was stumped.  I can usually have pretty long chats with my brain about all sorts of things but this one completely stumped me.  Maybe that's because it's impossible for a realistic world to be unrealistic...

This, as we will call from now on, is the STUMP.  So now that we have arrived to the STUMP of this ponder, let's move on to the next.

The next ponder is about something.  Yes, of course it's about something but I mean the word itself.  Now when we think about the opposite of "something" everyone (hopefully), will reply "nothing".  But think about it, is there really truly nothing there?  For example, an empty wooden box(doesn't have to be wooden, it can be plastic for all I care).  You will stick you hand in there and feel nothing.  No lumps or bumps.  That's because it's empty.

But, wait, is it really empty?  Air is all around us.  So, wouldn't you think that it's in the box, too?  And what is air?  It's something.  You know it's there when it blows around you, you can feel it, and it has a name.  So, obviously "air" is "something".

Now we will get back to that box.  Air is all around us = air is also in the box = there is something in the box.  Well, now that we've(hopefully you, you, and you too) have cleared that up, let's talk about nothing.  I mean, the word "nothing" of course.

"Nothing".  OK, here is where I need you to see if this makes any sense...*ahem*...if the air, which we consider most of the time to be nothing is something then that must mean that nothing equals something.  Let me go over that again...*wipes brow*...air = nothing (our usual thinking)  air = something (what we found out)  so...in mathematical ways...something = nothing.  Whew!  Now I'm sorry to those who don't enjoy anything mathy but let me just tell you that I hate it as much as you do and nor do I want to be bothered with it at a serious time like this.  But, well, due to circumstances, it couldn't be helped.

So, nothing is something.  But then, that means that "something" is "nothing".  So, when we say, "Look, there's something there!"...Now what?  Something = Nothing.  Now what?  I'll leave this part up to you.

The World of Japanese TV

So, I was watching TV...actually just a few moments ago and the television was showing some show of Japanese singers and their past hit songs.  Now I thought, "Oh, this is interesting," and kept watching it.  But soon I noticed how Japanese TV is all like this.  Every channel you go to is always in some form of ridiculous entertainment.  Yes, I know it is fun to see the famous old singers when they were young, but come on, what's the point?

Now, I'm not saying we should all stop entertaining ourselves with the pointless shows on TV.  I'm just saying that, "Why are we bothering to do this?"  I'm not really sure if I'm making any sense to you so I'll change the subject.

I once saw a TV show that was of some guys doing some strange bowling where you have to roll the ball up a hill and the hill gets higher after one or two guys for some reason.  One of the guys had to roll it up a very steep hill.  Yes, they are all people from TV comedy shows.  The really really popular successful guys don't participate in such elementary activities.

Anyway, this guy couldn't get the ball up and it just rolled back down.  Now after him is one more guy.  I had no idea at first but they seemed to be in two teams, each with three guys.  The second guy had glasses on and was very young and sort of delicate to the other's harsh words.  The other guys of his team were saying, "If you don't win for us we're all done!"  And well there were a few more harsh words, in Japanese called, "tsukkomi", until the second guy finally said, "Don't worry.  I got this one!"

But he didn't.  After the ball sadly rolled back down the hill, the poor guy was showered with a load of harsh tsukkomi's until he cried.  Now this, I thought as I watched, was way too much over the bar.

In another different show, one guy got a question wrong and was kicked and punched by these two comedy woman who were supposedly bees.

People say, "No violence!"  However, what do we see them doing on TV?  Throwing harsh words that are "supposedly" meant for comedy reasons and kicking and punching (not fake).  What are they doing????

TV is, just like the internet is, or maybe the whole of media or technology is, a dangerous place.  Thus we venture into such a place in pursue of personal entertainment or personal relaxation.  Even if that means we might be harming other people in the process.  Techonology has changed who we really truely are.  Don't you think so?

So the world of Japanese TV shows that we will do almost anything to get entertained.  It is a sad world but hopefully there will be a change in the thinking of Mr. Television Shows.

Non-understandable: Ghosts and such

Have you ever seen a ghost?  Caught one on video?  Captured a photo of one?  Have you ever asked yourself, "What is a ghost?  Are they real?"

There has been many a time when I would ask myself these questions and look it up on the Internet.  However, none of the sites seem to have a clean answer.  They would talk about those old haunted houses and abandoned hospitals.  But none of them really say whether or not a ghost is real.

Many of you probably know about Bloody Mary.  No, not the cocktail, I mean the one where you look at a mirror in a dark room lit with one candle and say "Bloody Mary" three times.  If you go to YouTube and type Bloody Mary, you would find that many people have attempted it.  However, none of them are clear whether Bloody Mary is real or not.  It is said when she appears, you either die or get pulled into the mirror.  Either way, you're never seeing your family and friends again.

Think about those ghost stories that you and your friends might talk about on Halloween night.  Most of them portray a ghost that haunts you until you go crazy and can't stop shivering.  Are all ghosts mean?  A such thing as good ghosts could probably be the spiritual guides of our ancestors.  Think about it.  Ghosts are these transparent human or animal spirits.  They can't always be mean, right?

Now let's think if ghosts are real.  I won't believe a ghost until I come face to face with one.  However, it is fun to surf the Internet for pictures or YouTube videos of ghosts that people have captured.  Watching it, I always wonder if it is true or fake.  Some of them seem pretty fake while others seem like they could be real.

When a we humans come in contact with something that we can't explain, we either scream, "Monster!" or "Ghost!".  However, are we right?  It could have been a bear, it or it could have been the light playing on the fog.  We love to name things.  We can't have something that does not have a name.  Everything in this world has a name.  From "Universe" to "Molecule" everything has a name.  So, when we see something without a name, we want to name it to understand it.  That leads us to "Ghosts" and "Monsters"; a categoery of unexplainable things.

Don't you think, however, that some things are just not meant to be understanded?  Something even like God or Angels.  Something so unimaginable that we can't understand.  We try so hard with our little brains to try to understand the non-understandable.  Let's just sit back and relax and stop worrying about trying to understand what is impossible to understand.  Unless we see it clearly and can tell what it is then we shouldn't worry about it.

If we see a unicorn in broad daylight clearly right before our very eyes, then, yes, we can conclude and name it "Unicorn".  Or if we see a ghost right before our eyes and have concluded that it is NOT the light playing on the fog right there and then, then, yes, we can probably say it is a "Ghost".  But until then, we should leave the non-understandable as the non-understandable and sit back and relax.
